The beautiful island of Dominican republic plays host to a number of events and festivals throughout the coming year. Below is a guide to the events so you can plan your holiday around maybe the jazz festival:

The Merengue Festival: 29th July – 1st August 2010. Top bands flock to the town of Santo Domingo where you can join in the amazing toe tapping and hip swirling music of this typical Caribbean dance.

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival: November 2010. This festival is so popular year after year. Attracting big names in latin jazz performers. hosted on Cabarette beach it is help on a Friday and Saturday night, and best of all its totally free.

The Caribbean Craft and Gift Show: 18-20 February 2011. Top artisans from places like Grenada, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica and many more come with all their beautiful crafts to an annual show in Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo Carnival: February 2011. Party goers flock to Santo Domingo to see the brightly coloured traditional devil masks and costumes. the celebrations continue through the month every Sunday.

Master of the Ocean. February – March 2011. A must for sporty types. Held at Cabarete beach annually is the famous windsurfing, surfing and kiteboarding competition.

La Vega Carnival. February 2011. This is the carnival celebrating afrtican heritage people are dressed in wild bright colours and wear masks, dancing such as the salsa and merengue occur all day and into the night on selected Sunday’s in the month.

Santo Domingo Music Festival. 2 -12th March 2011 this concert is held every two years. Musicians come from as far as the USA and Europe. The music is a celebration of classical style held in Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo International Book Fair. April – May 2011. This is perfect for all you book worms;hear readings from famous poets and writers and get a chance to purchase a book or two.
